NCDSB - O'Gorman High School OYAP

Who Pays?

Who will pay for this education and training?

Employers pay 85% of the cost of educating and training apprentices, through wages and time invested into training. Manufacturers estimate it can cost an employer $110,000 to train one apprentice.

Regular apprentices pay approximately $400 - $500 in tuition for each of the in-school sessions while at a community college or other training organization. Similar programs for fee-paying students at a community college would cost about $3000 per year.

OYAP students do not pay any tuition fees for in-school sessions while they are enrolled in high school. In addition, TCDSB students receiving industry-specific training at a community college or other training organization are provided with tools and text books during the program. Like all other apprentices, OYAP students may be required to purchase personal protective equipment and they are encouraged to purchase their own tools once they commence their work placement.
